Tessa Tessa Amanda AmandaPointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island in Montreal named"the West Island. People aren't sure of the significance of the word, and think it is an independent Island to the west of Montreal. In fact, the West Island includes the entire region from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to be from the West Island, but her visit was very brief. Brugel grew in Courtice just outside Oshawa. She hoped to be dancing at first, but due to the rapid growth of her body, she outgrew all of the dancers she had. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels, I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I was outgrowing my male partners I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel she was influenced by the drama teacher at her the high school. Her teacher urged her to audition for a part in a school production. After trying out, she ended up as the leading lady for the role of Rita in Anne of Green Gables. This led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the more than 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions both on small and big screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the role of Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
